And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

Shocking Statements of Jesus

March Series

The words of Jesus have been quoted by those that aren’t even believers. He said so many things that are full of grace and mercy. However, he also said things that honestly shocked his disciples. Have the words of Jesus ever shocked you? Did he really mean to say them? What if he did? What should we learn from them? During the month of March we will take a look at the things he said that shocked his followers and the casual listener.

November Series – The Counselor

In this four-week series, we will take a different approach to how we look at Jesus. Rather than being the one with all the answers, Jesus is sometimes the one who asks us questions–questions that force us to decide what we really believe. In The Counselor, Jesus asks, “Why are you so afraid?”, “Do you believe I can do this?”, “Do you want to get well?”, and “Why do you doubt?”. Join us each Sunday at 9:30 & 11:00.

City Kids – The Big Exit

City Kids will be learning about the “Big Exit” in Exodus. They will look at how God brought the children of Israel out of Egypt. They will learn many great lessons about freedom, obedience and maintaining Godly habits in their life. We know that they will grow in their relationship with God and be challenged by one of the most epic stories in the Old Testament.

Uprise Youth – November Series: “Selfie”

Our world dictates that true fulfillment comes from satisfying our SELF. Take social media for example, it’s posts of what YOU are eating, where YOU are going, what YOU are doing, and who YOU are with. We use the best filters for our “selfies” and the most popular hashtags to get as many likes as possible. Everything in life is for personal instant gratification. But how satisfying is the life of a “selfie”? Jesus says, “if anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.” Join us this month as we learn what true satisfaction really is and declare #DEATHTOSELFIE.

Blaze a Trail or Follow a Path?

What has God called us to do?  Blaze a trail or follow a path?

I know that being obedient to what God has called you to do can often feel like you’re blazing a trail. However, we are truly following a path that Jesus was the first to go down. The most fundamental things that Jesus taught us as His church, He did first. We see so many powerful examples in the ministry of Christ. By following Christ, we see how to be obedient regardless of the cost, how to be spiritual and not religious, and how to be generous and life giving. The road map Jesus drew for us is endless. He has blazed every trail, so we can simply follow His path. It should give us great peace to know wherever He leads us –  He has already been.

This morning during my daily Bible reading, I read Luke chapter 3. In this chapter, Jesus asks John to baptize Him. I can only imagine what was running through John’s mind as he held the Son of God in his arms and baptized Him in the river. Jesus spoke so loudly through His baptism that 2000 years later the example still shines like a lighthouse on top of a hill. He showed us how a follower of Christ needs to follow His example and be water baptized. If the sinless Son of God WALKED down this path, then we should RUN down the same path.

If you have never been water baptized, I encourage you to join us this Sunday and follow the path that Jesus has blazed for you. Make this Sunday the day you let all of Heaven and earth know that you are new, and you are following your Savior on your path!

Romans 6:4 we were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

Baptism is after the 2nd service.  Don’t forget to invite your family and friends and bring a towel and swimsuit.

Prayer, my second choice

On Sunday, I will be teaching on prayer for our 3rd week of the Elijah series. Elijah is a powerful example, which used prayer as a true spiritual force. Truth be told, we have a lot in common with Elijah.

The bible describes us basically as spiritual royalty. We have access to use the family name for authority, empowered by His spirit, and we have access to His promises to stand on. However, rather than acting like spiritual royalty we’ve lived much of life like a sleep deprived fireman answering one emergency call after another. We find ourselves bouncing from event to event trying to catch up with life. In all honesty, we would prefer that life be easy, all problems easily solved, no sickness, no lack and no need of wisdom. If life were like that, many of us would never pray. I think I’m not alone in thinking that, “I wish I didn’t have a reason to pray”. That’s why I say prayer is a second choice because many would prefer a problem free life to a prayerful one.

March Series Elijah

We live in a broken world and therefore, prayer is truly like the oxygen in our spiritual lungs. To live – we must be people that know how to pray. We pray about what’s going on now. However, I believe the most powerful prayer is for the days that lay ahead. The days where the chapter is unwritten and blueprints are yet to be drawn. We pray with the perspective of standing on the mountain of God’s promises looking into a future that He will lead us every step of the way. I invite you to join us on Sunday as we look at the life-changing force of POWERFUL PRAYER.

Why Are Small Community Groups Important?

Small community groups within a church of any size are important for growing your relationship with God. God has called us to push, challenge, and encourage each other in matters of life and faith and small groups are a great way to live that out. Acts 2:42 says, “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching …” Of course, we know the teaching of the apostles is what we call the New Testament today. Small groups were crucial to the growth of the church then and it is now as well.

Small community groups are composed of people who are all unique and different, therefore each small group is both unique and different. However there a few things common to the groups: a commitment to studying God’s Word, being a safe place to ask difficult questions and challenging each other in matters of faith. Groups usually meet once a week in homes, businesses, restaurants, or at the church. The groups change and begin again three times a year, so you have the opportunity to try out different groups throughout the year.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 says, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up, just as you are doing.” Small groups are a great way for people to encourage one another to make the right choices and follow in God’s path. Jesus calls us to be committed to one another, and it is through community groups that we learn the skills of relationship. Small groups are laboratories of love, where we learn to obey the command of Jesus to love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Small groups are great for witnessing to others. As these small groups met together, “the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved” (Acts 2:47). They were inviting others to join them. One of the proofs of a healthy small group is that it reproduces, so a small group may add members, but a small group may also help start another small group. Being a Christian means you should spread the word of the Lord and encourage others to join in your faith. A successful community group can bring others to their meetings and show them how great God is.

Healthy small community groups pray together. The Bible says the early believers devoted themselves to prayer. Jesus taught that there is a power to prayers spoken aloud for each other, and he made an incredible promise about small groups of believers: “For where two or three have gathered together in My name, I am there in their midst” (Matthew 18:20). The intimacy and confidentiality of small groups allows others to pray for one another as they share their hurts, reveal thier feelings, confess failures, disclose doubts, admit fears, acknowledge weaknesses, and ask for help.

Small groups make the church more personal. Whether the church averages 150 or 1,500, if someone can slip into a back row and then leave without sharing life with a person, the church is too large to not incorporate a small-group experience. Yes, it’s still true that a certain kind of person or a particular stage in life makes a toe in the water easier when you can be anonymous. But the research is in. The desire to find a few good friends is on the rise, and loneliness is increasing and small groups are a great way to get people involved in church. If new members feel as if they are welcome to join at any time, they will be more inclined to learning about the church and Jesus.

Small groups are a great way for people to make friends and learn about one another. Small groups provide an ever-expanding network for communication and impact. This is a huge benefit. There is a vast difference in the response to an announcement from the platform and a personal invitation. When this network for communication and impact is activated, reach becomes exponential. To learn more about community groups and their benefits go to
