City Kids

The Gospel Project continues for City Kids. Since the beginning of September, City Kids has been exploring the creation story and why God made the world, as well as, the fall of man and the consequences of sin. An amazing thing is emerging along side these stories, which is the redemptive plan of salvation through Jesus. When Adam and Eve sinned, God came looking for them. A promise was issued that one day a descendant of Eve’s would crush the serpent. Adam and Eve learned quickly that Cain and Abel were not the ones through which redemption would come. Who will it be and when? The story of Noah is next in our series. Please encourage you kids to bring their Bibles every week as we dive into God’s word. If you are interested in being a part of what God is doing in our kids, let Joel, Cheryl or Nelson know.

“Picture this. You’ve been watching for weeks as this ginormous statue of the king is being built. You don’t know for sure what’s going on, but you know it may not be good. All along, you and your two friends ask for God’s help in faithfully serving this king. The day comes where you are invited along with many other officials to the grand revealing of the statue. While you are there, you are told to bow down and worship this statue. What? This is crazy! Everyone is now bowing, but you three.”

“Talk about standing out in a crowd!”

“After a whole big whoop-de-do, you find out that you and your friends are gonna be tossed into a super-hot fiery furnace. Not a great ending to your day. If God doesn’t show up…..you’ll be toast, literally!”

This month, the preschoolers of City Point will be learning about bravery whether in the face of a giant, a fiery furnace or a pack of hungry lions. Never fear, God shows up every time!

Nursery News
The love of God can be communicated to even the tiniest babies. That’s why every child at every age will participate in an engaging, interactive Bible lesson. In October, our nursery babies, toddlers and two’s will be learning about all the wonderful animals God created. Songs, Bible story-time, and playful activities will emphasize God is the Creator of all living creatures.

We kick off a new 11-week semester of Community Groups on September 13th that will end on November 15th. This semester we will focus on one very simple goal – “Make A New Friend”. Our goal this semester is that by the end of the 11 weeks we will all have a new friend or friends in our life. Our small groups are Free Market groups which means they can be just about anything. In the past we have had many types of groups including family, ladies bible study, single mom’s, praying moms, men’s and marriage groups. Find a group today and make a friend!

3 Services3 Services

We have been blessed as a church since the day it was born on January 13, 2013 and have seen growth on a regular and consistent basis. Last year in the fall we grew by a little over 35%. That is incredible growth! We give God all the glory for adding to his church. As we are in the process of preparing for the fall growth season we feel it is necessary to add a third service to accommodate more people & to help ease the hallways, lobby & parking congestion. Our new service times will be 9:00, 10:15 & 11:45. We have created a little bit more time between the 2nd & 3rd services to help with parking congestion. This is a step of faith and we are excited to take it! How can you help? You can help by praying over the new service times and by serving if you are not currently involved. The launch day for three services is September 13th. See you there!

Clothez 4 KidzClothes 4 Kids

We have an opportunity coming up on Saturday, October 3rd to help change a child’s school year. We have partnered with several other area churches to sponsor back to school clothes for children in need. We hope to sponsor 35 children for $100.00 each to buy new back to school clothes. We will meet on Saturday, October 3rd at Kohl’s in Allen and take each individual child shopping to help outfit them for school. You can help in two ways. 1) Financially sponsor a child for $100.00 2) Be a shopper on that morning and help a child pick out all his/her new back to school clothes. We will be sharing more details in our services.

 Real talk

Sermon Series: Real Talk

Talking to some people is easy. You can hang out with your friends for hours and never run out of anything to say. But some people just make you nervous when you have to talk to them. No matter who it may be, you choose your words carefully when you talk to them because you don’t want to mess things up. And if we’re honest, prayer can feel a lot like that. We try to say the right thing but we aren’t sure if we’re doing it right. During this series, we’re going to take a look at what Jesus said prayer is and isn’t. And as we do, you may find yourself wanting to lay down the formalities, relax, and have some real talk.

City Kids

Kids

These are exciting times for City Kids! Starting on September 6th, “The Gospel Project”, begins.  It is a curriculum designed to give the big picture of God’s story.  “Some people see the Bible as a collection of stories with morals for life application. But it is so much more than that. Sure, the Bible has some stories in it, but it is also full of poetry, history, codes of law and civilization, songs, prophecy, letters—even a love letter. When you tie it all together, something remarkable happens. A story is revealed. One story. The story of redemption through Jesus.” (http://www.gospelproject.com/kids/) The Gospel Project will take us on a 3-year, chronological journey through the Bible. Kids will need to bring their bibles each week and if they don’t have one, we will help them to get one. If you and interested in being a part of what God is doing in our kids, let Joel, Cheryl or Nelson know.

Preschool

Preschool

Faith seems like quite a broad subject in the Bible, yet we need it everyday. It’s knowing God will come through for us even if we don’t yet see the answer. It’s about trusting Him even if we don’t understand. This month, our preschoolers will be learning about a few heroes of faith; Abraham, Sarah, Joseph and 4 special friends who knew if they could get their buddy to Jesus, he would be healed. We can’t wait to see your kiddos and teach them about some pretty faithful dudes!

Prayer & Community Groups

Hey Church!!

Our Fall Community Groups kick-off on Sunday, September 13th!! I know it sounds funny to talk about the fall while it is 99 degrees outside but the truth is, seasons change. I believe that for many of you our Community Groups will usher in a NEW season in your life. God never intended us to follow Him alone. He created us to be in a spiritual family. I would also like to invite you to host a group. It is simple to do…just find something you enjoy and do it. Maybe you want to have a Bible Study or go bowling every Thursday night – invite others to be part of it for 11 weeks. You may like playing golf or going out to eat – invite others to join you for 11 weeks. We will have small group host training on Tuesday, September 1st at the church at 7:00 pm. We will do our best to train and support you throughout the entire process. YOU CAN DO THIS! You won’t regret taking this step to host a small group. Also, your group doesn’t have to be specifically for people who attend City Point. You may have friends outside of City Point and you could form a group with them.

Prayer

We started 21 days of prayer today. I encourage you to take some extra time over the next 21 days to pray. Take advantage of the prayer journal that we have handed out the last couple of Sunday’s to help lead you in prayer. We have planned a special time of prayer in preparation for the fall as we believe God for a season of fruitfulness in our church. We will have a 1 hour-long corporate prayer service from 9:00am – 10:00am on Saturday – August 29th,   September 5th, and September 12th leading up to the kick-off of our THREE Services coming up on September 13th. Join us for this special season of prayer!

Here are some specific prayer needs for City Point:

  1. Point Team Members

Matthew 9:37 Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. 38 Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

  1. Souls

7 In the same way, there is more joy in heaven over one lost sinner who repents and returns to God than over ninety-nine others who are righteous and haven’t strayed away! (Luke15:7 NLT)

  1. Wisdom & Guidance for the leadership

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. James 1:5

  1. Finances & Provision

And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19

  1. Health of the church

As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love. Ephesians 4:16

If you have a prayer request you can email it to prayer@citypointchurch.com.

Fear can have many lasting negative effects. This is especially true for kids. Whether it’s being afraid of the dark, being alone, fear of rejection or any other type of fear, God has an answer. Psalms 34:4 says, “I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears.” (NLT)

This month in City Kids we will be continuing our Fear Busters series. Throughout this series the kids will continue to learn how to overcome fear by praying, trusting in God and relying on the truth of His word!

All of our lessons are done by incorporating a great blend of skits, videos, and small group lessons. If you have an interest in any of those areas and wish to share and develop your talents – please contact Nelson, or Joel & Cheryl, at info@citypointchurch.com.

Preschool

Preschool

When you think of nursery and preschool ministry, you may envision things like….. every toy in the classroom dumped out all over the floor. Dirty diapers that stink up a whole classroom to infinity and beyond. Children so hyped on donut-sugar, gathering them for lesson-time is like herding balloons.

I’m not saying those things don’t ever happen. BUT, to me nursery and preschool ministry is more than that. It’s having the children so engrossed in a Bible story that you can hear a pin drop. It’s kiddos humming and singing worship songs together while they work on a color sheet. It’s a volunteer stepping in to meet a need at the last minute. It’s getting a hug from a child who sees me outside of the classroom. It’s hearing my own boys telling me the story they just learned in church. Children’s ministry is alive and exciting and full of the pleasantly unexpected.

I’m grateful to all the volunteers who make this happen each week. The faithfulness I see every Sunday is only something God-breathed. Thank you to everyone who has ever taught kiddos. They are fun. They are messy. They are eternal.

Too Good To Be True

Has there ever been a point in your life where you wished you could just start over? Is there something about your past that you just can’t seem to get past?
Do you know you are doing something destructive in your life, but just don’t know how to stop? Is there someone in your life that you can’t seem to forgive? If you answered “yes” to any of the questions above then our upcoming series entitled, “Too Good To Be True” is definitely for you. In this series we will dive into the concept of grace, and about how it frees us from the prison of our past, enables us to have the strength to face any challenge we have in this life, allows us to forgive people who have deeply wounded us and how it wipes our slate clean with God and allows us a fresh start.
I know all of that sounds too good to be true.
But it’s not!
It’s grace!
It’s amazing!
It’s available!

Hey Dads of all ages! We have a great day planned just for you at City Point on June 21st during both services. We know you don’t want a day filled with flowery decorations and dainty finger food. You want a day that is an expression of you, a man, and not only a man but a Dad. We have designed a day to help the hair in your ears and on your back grow.  A man sized Father’s Day service. We will have archery (non-lethal), shooting (also non-lethal), sausage on a stick, hot dogs and a message aimed at all the Dad’s in the house. You only have one day a year that is “man” day and City Point is the place to kick it off!

XP3_Judgment_Call_Main_Slide

Judgment Call:

We make judgment calls all day long, from what we watch on TV or who we hang out with – to more complicated decisions like whether to attend a party or stick with a tough friendship. And, in every decision, we’re forced to ask the question, “Which option is better?” The problem is our natural tendency to judge leaks into places it shouldn’t — like our relationships. We begin making decisions about people without all the facts. We don’t know someone’s whole story, their whole situation, or their whole potential. We miss the big picture. Maybe that’s why, in the Bible, God makes it super clear: Judgment is His call. Not ours.

City Point Church – May Newsletter

May Series

We love offering little nuggets of advice, support, or sympathy. They come in handy when we want people to feel better. But what if the guidance you’re giving or receiving just isn’t true? What if, God Never Said That? This four-week series tackles common myths about God, like “God wants you happy” or “God never gives you more than you can handle,” and how those myths keep us from having a deeper relationship with Him.

Preschool Corner

“Don’t make me sing” ….not words you would have heard out of King David’s mouth. He loved to sing and praise God with all his might. This month in our Babies, Toddlers and 2’s/3’s classes, your little ones are going to learn how David praised God. Songs, instruments and fun activities will be provided to help the children get their praise on too.

“Miwacles. Miwacles ah wut bwing us togethah today.” (Said like the priest in The Princess Bride). The month of May will be known as, “Jesus’ Miracle Month” in our 4’s-Kinder class. They will learn about some of the awesome miracles of Jesus from feeding the 5000 to raising Lazarus from the dead, (there may be a toilet paper mummy wrapping game with that one). Worship, stories, games, crafts and small groups will all be part of the line up. We’re gonna have an inconceivable good time!

City Kids

City Kids Series

Mystery, intrigue, and the beauty of discovering truth – over the next 2 months City Kids will embark on an exciting adventure through, “Mystery Manor.” Mystery Manor is an 8-week series where kids will become like detectives and explore some of the foundational questions about life as a believer. Some examples are, “Is God real?” “Are God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit the same?” “What’s the big deal about the Bible?” “Is God really in control when bad things happen?” Each lesson is firmly rooted in showing the truth of God’s word as the critical source for what we know, understand, and believe. Gather your best sleuth tools and join us. If you have an interest in doing skits, set design, or teaching small groups contact the City Kids Team info@citypointchurch.com

Propel

Synopsis: When you were a kid, what did you look forward to most? Was it taking off the training wheels? Being tall enough to ride whatever you wanted at the fair? Getting to wear makeup? Or driving a car? It seems there’s something in every little kid that loves the idea of growing up. Middle school makes us wish for high school. High school makes us wish for college. And most of the time, we know what it takes to get from one level to the next, but what about spiritually? How do we know we’re moving forward in our faith? The good news is that, like any good Father, God wants us to grow. So, He doesn’t make it complicated. In fact, as we look at four things God uses to propel our faith, we may find that growing up spiritually can be simpler than we ever imagined.

Climate Change

Every person has a climate—sunny, stormy, or even icy. And the current climate dictates the forecast. The problem is that many of us are unaware of the emotional climates we carry around with us. In this 4-part series we will discover how we affect the emotional climate when we arrive home or step into a meeting at work, and we will look at three of the most significant climate shapers in any relationship. The truth for all of us is that at least one of our relationships could use a climate change. And until the climate changes, the forecast will remain the same.

Now What?

There are some moments in life that leave us all thinking, “Now What?”. Maybe it was when your teacher handed you a huge assignment and you didn’t even know how to start. Maybe your, “Now What?” moment came while sitting on the side of the road with a broken down car. No matter what the situation, you have probably had few experiences that left you with no idea of what to do next. In many ways, that’s how Jesus’ followers felt after He was crucified. No one expected him to die.  Many of them had left their homes and jobs and families to follow this man they thought would be their new leader, a king who would fix all of their problems. Then He was killed and all of those hopes came crashing down. But deep down, everyone was asking the same question, “Now What?”

Don’t Miss Out

Why do I need to be baptized?
Water Baptism

We will be having water baptism this Sunday in both services. Please bring a towel and a change of clothes to participate.

Water baptism is a public declaration of three things:

1. You are a Follower of Jesus Christ

(Acts 2:41) “Those who accepted his message were baptized…”

2. You are starting a New Life in Christ

(Romans 6:4) “We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
(2 Corinthians 5:17) “Therefore if anyone is in Christ they are a new creation old things have passed away and all things have become new.”

3.You are part of a New Family

(Galatians 3:26-27) “You are all sons [and daughters] of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you… were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.”
