December Series

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year! There are several things that set this season apart. There is music that lifts the soul, decorations that warm the home and a generous spirit that seems to unify everyone. However, Christmas is not celebrated because of what is happening but because of what did happen. Join us for all three Sundays in December and as we let His light shine.

Community Christmas Party- This Sunday!!!

We thought of you and made plans that are guaranteed to get the whole family in the Christmas spirit! We kick off the fun on Sunday, December 4th with a special visit from Santa all morning long and free family photos with the big guy himself. We will also have a Hot Chocolate Bar and an encouraging message about the true Spirit of Christmas.  This event is designed with your friends and co-workers that don’t have a church home in mind. Don’t wait – invite them today!

Family Movie Night

Our Family Christmas Movie Night is back by popular demand – one of our favorite City Point holiday traditions! This year we are offering TWO viewing times – Friday, December 9th at 6:30 pm ( the movie will begin at 7:00) and a matinee on Saturday, December 10th at 1:30 pm ( the movie will begin at 2:00).  You can sign up for your movie time and get a ticket at the link below.  Space is limited so be sure and sign up yourself and your kids and any friends you might want to bring along. Kiddos wear your PJ’s and bring a blanket.  There will be a hot chocolate bar, popcorn, movie candy and a visit from a special train conductor. Candle Light Christmas Eve Services

We will be partnering with Allen Community Outreach by collecting toys for children and teenagers in need. Please bring an unwrapped gift for children and a gift card for teenagers. Our last Sunday to receive donations is December 11th.

We are focusing our energy on our Christmas Eve services so you can enjoy Christmas day with the people you love. Have a wonderful Christmas and we’ll see you back at CityPoint on New Year’s Day at 10:15 & 11:45.

Connection Point – Starting in January

For the month of December, we put Connection Pont on pause but we will begin again in January so make plans to attend. Connection Point is a 4-week course where we share the vision and purpose of our church. You will learn more about City Point and our vision as well as a focus on how to grow in your relationship with God. We also look at discovering our purpose & gifting’s and we show you practical steps to utilize your gifts to build the Kingdom of God and find true purpose. It takes place DURING the 11:45 service. Connection Point begins the first Sunday of every month with Class 101. If you have questions, please email us at info@citypointchurch.com.

Preschool Corner

It’s Christmastime! Our preschool and nursery team love this time of year. The songs, the crafts, the games and the wondrous telling of the birth of our Savior throughout the month of December. Your kiddos will know Christmas isn’t about the candy and toys, but about the best present ever….Jesus!

Be sure to join us on Sunday, December 18th for our fun, festive parties in the 3’s and 4’s-Kinder classes! Everyone leaves with a treat and a little holiday cheer!

City Kids

There’s a lot happening with City Kids in December and heading into the New Year. Our Gospel Project series continues with the Israelite’s captivity in Babylon and their eventual return to their homeland. God sustained his people during 70 years of slavery. As God’s vision to Ezekiel showed, dry bones would once again be made whole, and God would breathe life again into Israel. That hope was a foreshadowing of what God would provide us with Jesus.

Regarding Christmas festivities, our fun “Polar Express” night returns on Friday, December 9th at 7 p.m. and we will have a 2nd showing on Saturday, December 10th at 2 p.m. The hot chocolate and marshmallows will be ready! We will also be having a Christmas birthday celebration for Jesus on December the 18th. Your kids will not want to miss either of these fun events.
Another important announcement for December is that we have started collecting summer camp Dry Gulch deposits.

It may seem premature to be discussing summer camp. However, Dry Gulch is such a popular camp, when the application process opens at the beginning of the year, any available spots will be gone quickly. It is critical that we send in deposits to reserve your kid’s place at camp. If your child is 7 years of age by June 19 and no older than 12, they are eligible to go. Our projected date for camp will be June 19th thru the 24th. Camp deposits are $100 per child and should be turned in by the week of December 11th. The camp is not exclusive to only City Point kids, but others are welcome. If you have neighbors, friends, or relatives that would like to go, please pass on the information to them and let us know about it A.S.AP.
Finally, joining the City Kids Elementary team is a great way to get connected. Come check us out. We’d love to meet you. castile@citypointchurch.com

Preschool Corner

Fall crispness is in the air. (It’s happening somewhere in the United States right now.) Leaves are changing. Pumpkin versions of every tasty treat. Thanksgiving must be right around the corner.

And that means time to reflect on all we are thankful for. Our preschoolers will hear the stories of Hannah, the ten lepers and Naaman’s dip in the river. Of course, we cannot celebrate this time of thankfulness without the story of the first Thanksgiving, complete with Pilgrims and the Mayflower.

Don’t miss the Thanksgiving parties in class on Sunday, November 13th. Gobble Gobble!

Nursery News
All month, our littlest turkeys will be learning how God created each of them unique and special. Songs, Bible story time, and playful activities will emphasize God is the Creator of all people.

Be sure to take a moment to say a little “thanks” to those who are meaningful in your life- maybe even our faithful Preschool and Kid’s volunteers!

City Kids

It was great to a have a visit recently from Brian and Ruthie Gomez, our missionaries to Spain. They shared with City Kids about the work they do and also gave a chance to connect names with faces. City Kids has taken up offerings for and supported Brian and Ruthie as a part of giving projects during VBS. Many of our kids knew about them and finally got to meet them.

As for our Gospel Project journey, Brian and Ruthie’s work fit into the narrative we were already studying. God pursued His people, calling them to Himself with Hosea, as well as, sending people out to reach others like Jonah to the Nineties. The prophet Joel continues to show how much God loves and desires for people to turn to Him. We’ve had a “big question” in City Kids each week, which is, “What is God like?” It’s an important question. The answer could mean the difference between choosing to follow God versus, hiding or running away from Him. The answer, taken not only from the Bible stories we’ve looked at, but also from direct quoting of the Scriptures is, “God is slow to anger, merciful, and loving. (Joel 2:13) God is a holy God and a God of justice. However, he is also eager to forgive us when we turn to him. In the light of Joel’s message, which warned to “Return to the Lord while there is time” (Joel 2:12), we must remember that Joel also reminds us that Jesus is coming back. When exactly will that be? Only the Father knows. Please pray for our kids as we present the gospel to them. Pray that the seeds we are planting of who God is and what he is really like will be rooted deep in their hearts. Kids don’t need to wait to experience God now.

Remind your kids to bring their Bibles each week. Also, if you feel a nudge come and join our team, let us know. City Kids is a great way to get connected. All adult participants will be given a background check. Junior high helpers are also welcome. Contact Joel or Cheryl at castile@citypointchurch.com

We will have two series in October. The first one is Crazy Like Us. What’s crazy? We will look at a couple of principles in October that may lead you to redefine what is crazy. What if our definitions in life are reversed? What if what we consider crazy is normal and what we consider normal is crazy? Join us every Sunday in October and let’s find out if you are crazy.
Everybody wants to be happy. Everybody is on a happiness quest. For many, happiness is measured in moments and experiences. It’s elusive. Unsustainable. What about you? What makes you happy? In this study, we will reveal what makes you happy. We explore the three things all happy people have in common. Then we discover how these three things can be realities for you as well.

We kicked off a new 12-week semester of Community Groups on September 4th that will end on November 20th. You can register online at www.citypointchurch.com and click the Connect tab. It’s not too late to find a group so register today and make some new friends!

Connection Point

Connection Point is a 3-week course where we share the vision and purpose of our church.

In Bible times, the world was a bit of a scary place. Encounters with giants. Fiery Furnaces. Lion’s dens. (Not necessarily the friendliest of environments.)Today is really no different. Bullies. Wars. Bad weather. Bad breath. Constant threats in our day and age.

It could be easy for an adult to be fearful, not to mention a young child. But one Person is constant and never changes through all times and ages….our Father God.

This month, your 3’s-Kindergarteners will discover the bravery of Queen Esther, the boldness of David, the faithfulness of Daniel, and the courage of three Hebrew men who would not bow down. Their trust was in God alone, and He made them strong and brave. God wants us to walk in that perfect peace and strength that comes from Him alone.

We’ll see giants fall, and lions lay down and breath mints consumed!

Nursery News
The love of God can be communicated to even the tiniest babies. That’s why every child at every age will participate in an engaging, interactive Bible lesson.

In October, our nursery babies, toddlers and two’s will be learning about all the wonderful animals God created. Songs, Bible story time, and playful activities will emphasize God is the Creator of all living creatures.

City Kids

God is a revealer! As much as we want to see God, he does reveal himself to us. In City Kids we’ve been looking at the evidence found in Scripture, which points to God showing himself, and ultimately pointing to Jesus. God showed himself as the one true God by fire from heaven on Mount Carmel. He then revealed himself to Elijah in the wilderness as a whisper.  He showed himself as a healer to Naaman by taking away his leprosy. The Prophet Isaiah saw a vision of God seated on his throne in heaven. Time and time again, we see God revealing himself. Our key passage in Hebrews 1:1-2 says it this way, “In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son.” (NIV)
One of the truths that emerge in seeing that God reveals himself to us is that he pursues us. That’s amazing! Because of his great love, he goes after us. City Kids is launching off into our next unit of the Gospel Project where we see that God pursues people. What a great message and so needed for today!

Remind your kids to bring their Bibles each week. Also, if you feel a nudge to come and join our team, let us know. City Kids is a great way to get connected. All adult participants will be given a background check. Junior high helpers are also welcome. Contact Joel or Cheryl at castile@citypointchurch.com

Beginning Sunday, October 2nd City Point will be collecting new teddy bears to be used for the 24th annual Teddy Bear Drive – these bears will be given to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County. Please bring your new bear to the City Kids service any Sunday until October 23rd.

Please join us in supporting this awesome community event. We’ll see you Sunday!

Super Sunday

I think everyone can agree that our City Kids have a great time every Sunday. They worship, play games, make friends and learn about Jesus. This summer we’ve decided to take it to a whole new level! We’ve invited their favorite Super Heroes to join us for all three services on July 10th. What would it be like to meet Spider-Man, Ironman, Batman or Captain America? Invite somebody that has a child who loves superheroes to be part of this Super Sunday!  And don’t forget your camera to snap a few pics!

Come join us for a worship experience that is sure to take your walk with God to a deeper place.  Take some time out of your busy summer and allow room for God to speak to you.  We all carry burdens and walk through circumstances that are beyond our control and this night is designed for you to forget about the worries of life – cast your cares on Him – and be refreshed in God’s presence.  We’ll see you on Sunday, July 10th at 7pm for this awesome time together!  Childcare is provided for babies through 6th grade.

A star-nosed mole.  Sea pigs. Blobfish. Sloth.
These are some of God’s more unusual creatures, yet they have a name and a purpose.
(One purpose being they look cool on Discovery Channel.)
The Creation story, Adam, Eve, Noah, Abraham & Sarah will give your 4’s and 5’s a look at God’s epic creation of a planet, a plan, a promise and a people. More fun than watching Discovery for sure!

Another of God’s wonders is friendship.
This July, the babies & toddlers, 2’s and 3’s will learn the value of friendship with stories like Jonathan & David plus four special dudes who creatively helped their friend meet Jesus. It’s the heat of the summer and our hearts are warm with God’s goodness.

Love gardening? Looking for some fresh soil to exercise your green thumb? Join our preschool and nursery team and start planting the seeds of God’s Word in little hearts today! Contact Alicia Ingram for more information at aingram@citypointchurch.com. Seeds will be provided!

City Kids

Kids Camp is almost here!  It’s going to be “major” fun! It will also be a great opportunity where the typical cultural voices surrounding our kids becomes less and they can get more connected with God. How awesome is that? Please pray that camp will truly be a life-changing experience for the kids!

1 Peter 5:8 instructs us to, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” (NLT) This is particularly true for our kids today. So please be in prayer for us.
In our weekly City Kids services, we continue our “Gospel Project” journey with the emergence of King David and a prophetic covenant. God promised to establish an eternal kingdom through David’s line. It was the promise of Jesus.
The promise of Jesus continues to flash forward as we learn about God and his people in the old testament.

Remind your kids to bring their Bibles each week. Being a part of the City Kids ministry is a great way to serve. If you have an interest, come and talk to us. All adult participants will be given a background check. Junior High helpers are also welcome. Contact Joel or Cheryl at castile@citypointchurch.com

April Series > Starting Point

Everything has a starting point—your life, your relationships, your education, your career.

Sometimes we forget that faith has a starting point as well. For some of us, our faith journeys began in childhood as a set of beliefs handed to us by a parent, teacher, or pastor. Maybe you developed a framework of faith based on personal experience. Or maybe you had no faith at all. Too often, a faith formed long ago isn’t strong enough to withstand the pressures of your current life. What if you could find a fresh starting point for faith?

City Kids

With spring season in full swing, City Kids on Easter Sunday saw 3 very full services. Besides the 2000 Easter eggs, petting zoo, and cotton candy, we had many visitors from the surrounding community. We also are ecstatic that several kids made a commitment for Christ and that’s what it’s all about! Thank you so much for all that volunteered and worked hard to make Easter Sunday one of the best City Point has ever had.
As for our continuing Gospel Project Journey it was amazing to go from Moses putting a bronze snake on a pole for the Israelites to be healed, to showing Jesus on the cross for the salvation of the World.

We will now be going back to the Old Testament wilderness with Moses passing the “torch” to Joshua. God is faithful and the kids will be learning how he fought for his people and made a way for them. Don’t forget to have your kids bring their Bibles each week.
If you would like to volunteer in our City Kids ministry we currently have multiple opportunities to serve. All adult participants will be given a background check. Junior High helpers are also welcome. Contact Joel or Cheryl at castile@citypointchurch.com

February Newsletter

February Series

When you feel down and out, you may be down, but you’re never out. There is still hope. Sure, you may be behind. It may be the Bottom of the 9th, but there is still a chance to turn this game around. Join us in February as we look at how to turn things around.

Community Groups

We kick off a new 12-week semester of Community Groups on February 22nd that will end on May 9th. This semester we will, again, focus on one very simple goal – “Make a Friend”. Our hope is that by the end of the 12 weeks we will all have a new friend or friends in our life. Our small groups are Free Market groups which means they can be just about anything. We will send an email soon with the list of groups and give you an opportunity to register.

Do You Want To Host a Group?

If you are interested in hosting a group please let us know at info@citypointchurch.com. We will have host training on Tuesday, February 9th at 7:00 PM.

Winter Party

We are throwing a Winter party! We have planned a special day to help turn around those Winter-time blues. We have invited some of the characters from Frozen; Elsa, Anna and Olaf to join us that day. They will be in the lobby before and after each service to meet the kiddos and for you to take photos. We will have games and a ton of fun so invite your friends and let’s party!

Join us on February 21st at 6:30 for a night of worship with the CityPoint band and Pastor Eddie. We will take our time and enjoy the presence of God. Childcare is available for birth through 6th grade – no registration is required. This night is open to the public – so invite a few friends along!

Kids Camp

If you attended Summer Camp as a kid then you can remember how life changing it was. In fact, statistics tell us that kids that attend camps on a regular basis as a child and student tend to have a stronger faith as an adult. We as a church want to make sure every child has this opportunity. On February 21st we will have tip jars next to our coffee and doughnut stations. We are asking everyone to bring a little extra cash and change that day and drop it in the jar as you enjoy your free hot coffee and yummy doughnuts. This will help cover transportation costs and any kids that need scholarships.

Connection Point

Connection Point is a 3-week course where we share the vision and purpose of our church. If you have questions please email us at info@citypointchurch.com.

Preschool Corner

“Flowers….. chocolates….. promises you don’t intend to keep.” (Cogsworth – Beauty and the Beast)These words may be associated with Valentine’s day and February in general, but not with our preschoolers! This month, your kiddos will be learning about God’s love for us and sharing His love with others. Stories like the Prodigal Son, the Good Samaritan, the Loaves and Fishes and Jesus with Zacchaeus will round out our “Love Month” lineup in the babies thru kinder classes. No Valentine’s day would be complete without a festive party to celebrate on February 14th, packed with games and treats. It promises to be a very good time (and we intend to keep that promise????)

Join the Team…..Have you ever wanted to get involved at church and you enjoy little ones? We’d love to have you join the preschool team and see what the fun is all about. Serve as little as once a month. Serve with a friend or serve with your spouse. Contact Alicia Ingram at aingram@citypointchurch.com for more information!

City Kids

As City Kids continues to journey though the Gospel Project series, one thing is clear; it becomes almost impossible to look at stories like the life of Moses and not see the life of Christ emerge. We’ve been able to help the kids draw parallels between Moses as a mediator between God and Israel and Jesus being our ultimate mediator. God delivered his people from slavery in Egypt, but what will happen in the wilderness? Where will He lead them? Our next few lessons will focus on the Ten Commandments and God’s Holiness.

If you would like to volunteer in our City Kids ministry we currently have multiple opportunities to serve. All adult participants will be given a background check. Junior High helpers are also welcome. Contact Joel, Cheryl, or Nelson at castile@citypointchurch.com

Uprise Series

There’s a lot of people quoted in the Bible. From kings, to prophets, you can find almost every advice imaginable for our lives. Even God has a few things he’s credited for saying (go figure). But there was a period in time where God had a lot to say to his people, in particular Jesus’ time. In fact there are tons of Jesus quotes, some that are intriguing, others controversial. It goes without saying that all of them are very important and we should pay close attention. This month, join us as we examine some of His more famous quotes He said during his time on earth.

ATTENTION ALL MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL

Parents! We are really excited to announce that Uprise will be attending VERGE Summer Camp this year!! We want to give your students an opportunity to offer help to the victims of the tornado that occurred the day after Christmas. If any students and/or parents are interested in volunteering please contact Pastor Andrew at (318) 608-1811 or email us at uprise@citypointchurch.c

Gifts

Gifts - Presentation Graphic

Much of the focus during the Christmas season is about the giving of gifts. We put together lists. We spend way too much time in the mall. We spend way too much money. All in an effort to give the people we love a gift they will love.  But what about the receiving of gifts? What does the way I receive a gift say about me?

The message of Christmas is all about a gift-giving God. It’s about a God who gives us what we need the most. The most important thing this Christmas may have nothing to do with the gifts you give but rather the gifts you are willing to receive.

Candlelight Christmas Eve Services

Bring the whole family and join us on December 24th at 4:00 & 5:15 for our Christmas Eve Candlelight Service as we sing carols, listen to the Christmas story and light our candles in honor of the one who is the light of the world. It will be a beautiful Christmas celebration honoring the birth of our Savior.

Movie Night

Join us for our 2nd Annual Family Movie Night on December 4th from 6:30 – 9:00pm.  Come dressed in your favorite PJ’s as we watch The Polar Express and enjoy a hot chocolate bar, popcorn & candy.  Don’t forget to bring a blanket and pillow.  Be sure and invite your friends and family to come join the fun.  This night is for all ages! (The movie will begin promptly at 7:00)

Christmas with our City Kids

Our 4’& 5’s and our elementary kids will be singing during all three services on Sunday, December 13th.  If your child is in these age groups – be sure and pick up a CD and words to practice at home.

Community Christmas Service

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  This season we thought of you and made plans that are guaranteed to get the whole family in the Christmas spirit. We have asked Santa to make an early stop on Sunday, December 6th at City Point during all three services. We will have a photo area for your family to take a picture with Santa, a hot chocolate bar, and an encouraging message about the true Spirit of Christmas. You can schedule your photo with Santa below.

Time to Shop on Amazon Smile

If you are shopping on Amazon this year please use this Amazon Smile link. AmazonSmile is a simple and automatic way for you to support City Point Church every time you shop, at no cost to you. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you’ll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience as Amazon.com, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a 0.5% of the purchase price to the church.

Donate A Toy

Bring an unwrapped toy for a child to any service. We want to help our local children have a Merry Christmas!

No Sunday Service

This year as a gift to all of our volunteers who make each Sunday happen – we will not have Sunday services on December 27th. Enjoy the day with your family and we will see you on Sunday, January 3rd.

Uprise Youth

Christmas is such a festive time of the year. On top of family get-togethers, holiday meals, & gift giving, we get to celebrate the birth of our Lord & Savior. This month however, we want to look past our lavish lifestyles and focus on the humbling circumstances that surrounded Jesus Christ’s birth. Join us as we realize the power of being Broke this Christmas season.

Wednesday, December 16th at 7:00PM – follow Uprise Youth on Facebook/Instagram/Twitter for more details as the time comes.

No Youth Service – Wednesday, December 23rd
Instead, bring your family on Thursday December 24th to one of our Christmas Eve services.

City Kids

There’s a lot happening with City Kids in December and heading into the New Year. Our Gospel Project series continues with the Israelites in Egypt and chronicles God as the “Redeemer.” Please encourage your kid’s to bring their bibles each week.

Regarding holiday festivities, our kids (pre-K thru 6th grade) will be singing Christmas songs for the Dec. 13th adult services. We’ve been practicing for a few weeks already. It’s going to be great!  Every child should have already received the music and lyrics to practice at home. Let us know if you still need a copy. Have your children wear red and green on that Sunday if possible.

Preschool Corner

It’s the holiday season in our preschool department! The excitement is mounting as we prepare for the wondrous telling of the Christmas story throughout the month of December. We’ll also sprinkle in candy canes, festive crafts and holiday games. I think it would be safe to say, you may spot some ugly Christmas sweaters later on in the month too. Ho, Ho, Ho!

Kids Camp

We are so excited for summer camp 2016. This year, we will be taking our elementary kids (ages 7-12) to Dry Gulch, USA in Oklahoma.

Preschool Corner

Everyone is thankful for the basics: food, shelter, clothing and family. As believers, we are incredibly thankful for Jesus and the price He paid.

How about few things we may not typically think of in our bubblings of thanksgiving: eyebrows (the summer wouldn’t be the same without them), the word FRESH (it’s just fun to say, especially out of a child with a lisp) and my particular favorite…indoor plumbing (no need to expound on that one).

This November, the theme of thankfulness continues as our preschoolers will learn about the 10 lepers, Paul and Silas, Mary and Martha, and Naaman’s little dip in the river. We’ll round out the month with the story of the first Thanksgiving, a fun craft and energetic games to celebrate the holiday.

Don’t think we’ve forgotten about our littlest turkeys. Our nursery will be learning all month long about how God made them unique and special.

Take a moment to say a little “thanks” to those who mean something in your life- maybe even our creative, encouraging and faithful Nursery, Preschool and Kid’s volunteers!

Uprise Youth

The holiday rush is right around the corner, but we want to slow things down a bit and learn to appreciate our lives & everything in it. This month we will focus not on all the things we don’t have, but everything that God has blessed us with and maybe take a moment and write some Thank You Notes to God.

City Kids

City Kid’s journey through the Gospel Project continues. After the Story of Noah and the Tower of Babel, we saw God emerging as more than the creator. He is a “Covenant Maker.” We saw the call of Abraham and how God tested him. Then we learned how the covenant was reaffirmed to Isaac and Jacob. Our next unit will show God as a “Covenant Keeper.” Please encourage your kids to bring their Bibles each week as we dive into God’s Word. If you have an interest in working with our Children’s Ministry, let Joel, Cheryl, or Nelson know.
