For many, the Christian life feels like a long game of “Jesus Says”:
Jesus says pray.
Jesus says give.
Jesus says go to church.
But upon further investigation, we discover that Jesus’ invitation to his first-century audience was an invitation to relationship. And it began with a simple request—follow me
We kick off a new 11-week semester of Community Groups on September 13th that will end on November 15th. This semester we will focus on one very simple goal – “Make A New Friend”. Our goal this semester is that by the end of the 11 weeks we will all have a new friend or friends in our life. Our small groups are Free Market groups which means they can be just about anything. In the past we have had many types of groups including family, ladies bible study, single mom’s, praying moms, men’s and marriage groups. We need to you pray about two things 1) Lead a group or 2) Attend a group. We will have a training on Tuesday, September 1st from 7:00-8:30 PM. Don’t wait – this is the right time to get involved!
Back to School Sunday
Summer is almost over and the first day of school is right around the corner. We know you have a laundry list of things to purchase, places to go and things to do, but we want to help you start this school year off right. On August 23rd, we will have a special day to pray over your students and our teachers as they go – Back to School. This will also be the day that those starting 1st grade will move up to City Kids and our kiddos moving into Middle School will join Mom & Dad in the adult service. On that Wednesday night, August 26th – all of our new Middle School students will move up to Uprise Youth – they meet at the church on Wednesday nights at 7:00. Be sure and invite a neighbor or a friend from school!
Are you ready to go ALL IN and take your faith public? We will be having water baptism during both services on Sunday, August 30th. What a meaningful day to take part in a foundational event for a follower of Christ! If you are interested in being baptized please let us know at email@example.com or by filling out a Connection Card during a service and writing “Baptism” on it – you can drop it in the offering.
New Service Times
We have been blessed as a church since the day it was born on January 13, 2013 and have seen growth on a regular and consistent basis.
Last year in the fall we grew by a little over 35%. That is incredible growth! We give God all the glory for adding to his church. As we are in the process of preparing for the fall growth season we feel is it necessary to add a third service to accommodate more people & to help ease the hallways, lobby & parking congestion. Our new service times will be 9:00, 10:15 & 11:45. We also plan to create a little bit more time between the 2nd & 3rd services to help with parking congestion. This is a step of faith and we are excited to take it! How can you help? You can help by praying over the new service times and by serving if you are not currently involved. The launch day for three services is September 13th. See you there!
Season of Prayer
We have planned a special time of prayer in preparation for the fall as we believe God for a season of fruitfulness in our church. We will have a 1 hour-long corporate prayer service from 9:00am – 10:00am on Saturday – August 29th, September 5th and September 12th. Join us for this special season of prayer!
Have a prayer request? We would love to agree in prayer with you. Please let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org. We also meet every Sunday morning at 8:30 in the multipurpose classroom to pray for our church, our families, and each other.

Camp was awesome last month! Many of you experienced God in a new way and saw a glimpse of what God has in store for your future. But now you’re home and you’re faced with distractions and problems. Suddenly that “experience” is clouded by your day-to-day stresses and you begin to feel overwhelmed. How do you take that energy and drive from camp and apply it to your reality? How do you BUILD off that momentum? Join us this month as we take a look at a guy named Nehemiah from the Bible, who receives a God-sized challenge to change the destiny of his country and its people. It’s time to BUILD.
Join us this month as we celebrate the end of #UpriseSummer2K15 with some awesome events!
August 5th- Gaming Truck
August 12th- Marshmallow Dodgeball & S’mores Bar
August 19th- Wet-N-Wild Water Wars
August 26th- Bahama Bucks
#UpriseAfterHours- We will go grab some food at different places each week after service so bring some extra money if you want to grub or just come hang out!
Fear can have many lasting negative effects. This is especially true for kids. Whether it’s being afraid of the dark, being alone, fear of rejection or any other type of fear, God has an answer. Psalms 34:4 says, “I prayed to the Lord, and He answered me. He freed me from all my fears.” (NLT)
This month in City Kids we will be continuing our Fear Busters series. Throughout this series the kids will continue to learn how to overcome fear by praying, trusting in God and relying on the truth of His word!
All of our lessons are done by incorporating a great blend of skits, videos, and small group lessons. If you have an interest in any of those areas and wish to share and develop your talents – please contact Nelson, or Joel & Cheryl, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
When you think of nursery and preschool ministry, you may envision things like….. every toy in the classroom dumped out all over the floor. Dirty diapers that stink up a whole classroom to infinity and beyond. Children so hyped on donut-sugar, gathering them for lesson-time is like herding balloons.
I’m not saying those things don’t ever happen. BUT, to me nursery and preschool ministry is more than that. It’s having the children so engrossed in a Bible story that you can hear a pin drop. It’s kiddos humming and singing worship songs together while they work on a color sheet. It’s a volunteer stepping in to meet a need at the last minute. It’s getting a hug from a child who sees me outside of the classroom. It’s hearing my own boys telling me the story they just learned in church. Children’s ministry is alive and exciting and full of the pleasantly unexpected.
I’m grateful to all the volunteers who make this happen each week. The faithfulness I see every Sunday is only something God-breathed. Thank you to everyone who has ever taught kiddos. They are fun. They are messy. They are eternal.
Clothez For Kids
We have an opportunity coming up on October 3rd to help change a child’s school year. We have partnered with 2 other area churches to sponsor back to school clothes for children in need. We hope to sponsor 25 children for $100.00 each to buy new clothes for school. We will meet on Saturday, October 3rd at Kohl’s in Plano on McDermott and take each individual child shopping to help outfit them for school. You can help in two ways. 1) Financially sponsor a child for $100.00 2) Be a shopper on that morning and help a child pick out their new clothes. We will be sharing more details in our services.
